The Top Ten Things to Look For When Purchasing Greenhouse Kits

February 3rd, 2010

1. Warranties

High quality greenhouse kits will be supported by strong warranties. A company which believes in the durability and quality of their products will always back them up with an exceptional warranty.

2. Ventilation Systems

The ventilation system is vital to a successful greenhouse. At minimum, choose greenhouse kits with naturally ventilated roof vents. There are various additional ventilation options to consider when selecting a greenhouse.  Select a system which maintains the optimal temperature range for the desired plants, such as, thermostatically controlled roof vents and horizontal air flow fans.

3. Space

Greenhouse kits should feature large open entranceways, doors and pathways. This will simplify the transportation of plants and equipment in the space. When selecting a greenhouse review the layout carefully. Ensure that it is spacious enough to accommodate the moving of large potted plants or wheelbarrows.

4.  Ease of Assemble

Select greenhouse kits which are simple to assemble and accompanied by clear, easy to follow instructions.  Be sure to verify that the greenhouse of choice comes will all components precut and predrilled.

5. Structural Strength

The frame of the greenhouse should be durable and able to withstand varying weather conditions.  The material which has the greatest durability and structural strength is often aluminum.  An aluminum substructure can provide additional strength and enable your greenhouse to meet local building codes.

6. Seal

The greenhouse kits should be designed to seal in heat and keep out cooler air. Seals will better control the temperature of the greenhouse and benefit the growth cycle of the plants while leaks can slow plant growth. Ensure that the greenhouse selected features gasketed bar caps which properly seal the environment.

7. Accessories

The use of the greenhouse space may change overtime. Properly selecting accessories will enable the greenhouse to adapt to changes in plant selection.  Accessories to consider include: ventilation equipment, shade cloths and heaters. Additionally, when considering accessories ensure that the equipment will meet the demand of both your winter low temperatures and summer high temperatures.

8. Customer Service

Ensure that the company which the greenhouse kits are purchased from is backed by superior customer service. This will guarantee that any future help which may be required (with assembly or accessory selection), is performed with greater ease.
